Catherine Zeta-Jones’ “mind is blown” when Bono acknowledges her.

The Hollywood actress has named U2 as her favourite band. The award-winning Irish group had a profound effect on her before they hit the big time, and Catherine remains amazed by their presence even now.

“I remember seeing U2 when they were just an Irish band before they made it big and it blows my mind that Bono says, ‘Hi Catherine, how are you doing?’ I’m like, ‘Oh my God, it’s Bono!’” she exclaimed in an interview with the UK edition of OK! magazine.

“I can clearly remember going trick or treating with my kids to Bono’s house, I had to be really grown up and get it together.”

Catherine plays a political wife in the musical Rock of Ages, alongside a star-studded cast including Tom Cruise.

The stunning star doesn’t understand why some people are frightened by rock ‘n’ roll music.

“I don’t know, but I love the edginess of it,” she smiled.

Catherine has described the process of creating the film. The actress – who has already appeared in musical Chicago - was ready for the challenge again.

“It was a great camaraderie and dedication, making musical movies of this genre, because when musicals are good, they are very good and when they are bad, some of them are really horrid, but it’s a very committed genre of filmmaking” she said.

“And my gosh, directing it must be even more schizophrenic, but it’s comforting to come back. It’s a very different role as well, so it’s not that we are reprising anything. It was on a completely different level with a different character and different direction.”
