Keira Knightley was always in a "bad f**king mood" while filming Anna Karenina - much to the frustration of her fiancé.

In the drama the British actress stars as aristocrat Anna, who enters into a life-changing affair with Count Vronsky.

Keira became drained by the highly-emotional plot and says that impacted her home life with her fiancé James Righton.

"I don't think I was the easiest to live with! It was quite a relief to finish - the level of emotion which had to be kept up was quite exhausting, so she [the character] did come home more than I would have liked her to," she quipped in an interview with the UK edition of OK! magazine.

"I'd just be in a bad f**king mood!"

Keira has achieved notable success in Hollywood, with roles in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, Atonement and A Dangerous Method.

The 27-year-old star knows that her acclaimed performances won't always please everyone though.

"Absolutely, but unfortunately, if you are looking for the A, you are always going to hear the noises that go, I hate you, you're sh*t," she laughed when asked if it's a good thing she's not always liked by everybody.

"And there goes the A again!"
