Simon Cowell believes One Direction sets “good examples” for aspirant musicians.

The music mogul signed the British boy band to his record label after they performed on the UK version of X Factor.

Unfortunately One Direction didn’t win that 2010 TV talent competition, but Simon still saw their potential.

One Direction is now one of the biggest music acts in the world and Simon is inspired by their success.

"It just proves the point that you can enter one of these shows, and even though you didn't win, you can have a big career afterwards," Simon told MTV News.

"I think they're good examples for the other contestants, you know what the show can do for people."

One Direction performed their new tune Live While We’re Young on the American version of X Factor Thursday night.

The group, which is comprised of Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan, had a blast performing for judges Simon, L.A. Reid, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and fans.

"It was so nice to come here, perform two songs," Liam said.

"We had a great time, so we're really happy."

One Direction’s new album Take Me Home is released next week.
