(Cover) - EN Movies - Daniel Day-Lewis, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Bill Murray are being tipped for 2013 Oscar nominations.
The stars in the running for the Academy Awards will be announced on January 10, although the Oscar buzz has already begun.
Method actor Daniel portrays former US President Abraham Lincoln in new movie Lincoln, while Anthony is filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock in Hitchcock. Bill also takes on a real-life person in Hyde Park on Hudson, in which he portrays late US President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Each star went all out to make their portrayals as believable as possible, with Anthony even wearing a fat suit during a lot of shooting.
“A number of sources - with a good history of accurate Oscar predictions - believe this year’s race is Day-Lewis’ to lose, though Hopkins could be the spoiler,” reports Chicago Sun-Times.
Members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences vote on who should win the Oscars each year, with the publication’s writer Bill Zwecker speaking to several of them to get the inside track.
Other eminent actors who are thought to be in the running include Joaquin Phoenix for The Master, Denzel Washington for Flight and Bradley Cooper for Silver Linings Playbook. It’s thought Hugh Jackman’s stint in upcoming musical movie Les Misérables could score him a best actor nod too.
As far as the women’s prize goes, Dame Helen Mirren, Dame Maggie Smith and Dame Judi Dench are thought to be the frontrunners.
Helen portrays Alfred Hitchcock’s wife in Hitchcock, Judi played an ageing lady with a lust for life in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Maggie is being praised for her role as diva Jean in Quartet.
“Others who could be contenders are Naomi Watts (The Impossible), Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Smashed), Marion Cotillard (Rust and Bone) and Keira Knightley (Anna Karenina),” reports the publication.
