(Cover) - EN Movies - Jay Leno is reportedly furious that Jimmy Kimmel is trying to push Chelsea Handler out of the primetime late night spot.

The 62-year-old American The Tonight Show host will retire soon and his programme’s coveted slot will be open.

Both Chelsea and Jimmy have received many accolades for their work over the years, with Jimmy even hosting the Emmy Awards last year.

Apparently Jay is rooting for Chelsea, but Jimmy is vying hard for the role and has the support of Saturday Night Live head honcho Lorne Michaels.

“Jay is not happy about Jimmy’s push for his job,” a source told Star magazine.

“Lorne has the ear of every power broker attached to Jay’s show. Despite Jay’s support, Chelsea’s got no chance against these two.”

Jimmy recently revealed that he wasn’t fond of Jay’s work at all.

"Leno hasn't been a good stand-up in 20 years,” he told Rolling Stone magazine.

"As a comedian, you can't NOT have disdain for what he's done. He totally sold out. He was a master chef who opened a Burger King."

Jay has been hosting late night talk shows in the US since 1992.

In 2010 the iconic presenter made headlines after host Conan O’Brien was forced to step down as newly appointed host of The Tonight Show following the end of Jay’s contract with the programme.

Jay returned to his post in place of Conan, enraging viewers. The “I’m With Coco” movement campaigned to keep Conan on the air.
