Paul Rudd on 'crazy' Anchorman sequel

Paul Rudd promises the Anchorman sequel will be “crazy”.

Following the success of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy in 2004, the follow-up movie Anchorman: The Legend Continues has been slated for release at the end of this year.

Although Paul knows it will be difficult to match the success of the original, he believes everyone working on the project has done their best to ensure it will be a hit.

“There will be - inevitably - people who will be let down because it won’t be the first one. You know the characters now, you’ve seen them and, as interesting as it might be to see them in a new setting, it’s not the first experience,” he admitted to BBC Newsbeat.

“But I hope, and I think, that it will be very funny. Adam McKay - who directs it and co-wrote it with Will Ferrell - they just know that world so well and they also know that it has to be good, it has to be crazy; they have to put some work in.

And they’ve been working hard for a long time. They’ve put in the effort.”

Paul also stars in This Is 40, a sequel to Judd Apatow’s hit comedy Knocked Up.

The movie focuses on Paul and Leslie Mann’s characters Pete and Debbie, who are struggling through their marriage.

The 43-year-old star is excited about the honesty of the film.

"Let's try and do a movie that's real and has conversations in it. Like an anti-movie, that would be awkward and uncomfortable to watch but also really funny,” he explained about the nature of This Is 40.

“Judd Apatow - the director - the way he works, is he lets us add what we want to improvise... We just start saying stuff, like we'll be doing a scene then someone will yell out a joke and we'll all laugh.”
