Kate Winslet says she has a lot of “rubbles and brick” in her life now and she knows how to “carry it”.

The British actress has been through a lot over the last few years, including divorcing film director Sam Mendes and secretly marrying Ned Rocknroll in December.

She has attempted to explain how her life experiences have impacted her recent work.

“I think I can see more clearly now - about how the pattern of past experiences has shaped who I am, and the characters I have played - and I'm grateful for that,” she told the latest edition of British magazine Harper’s Bazaar.

“I have so much more material to draw on for work - rubble, bricks - and I know I can carry it now. I'm not going to drop it, and if I do, I'll sift through it. Does that make any sense at all' Probably not.”

Kate and Sam married in 2003 and announced their separation in 2010. It seems the actress had begun re-evaluating her life before the marriage breakdown, as she explained things have been different for her for many years.

“I've really learnt a great deal about myself, in the last four years in particular,” she said.

The 37-year-old actress was awarded a CBE for services to drama by Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II last year. Kate previously revealed the two women spoke about their children, with the monarch telling the star that motherhood is “the only job which matters”.

She still looks back on that day with excitement and can’t believe she has met the long-reining royal.

“Oh my God, she looks amazing," Kate enthused. "Beautiful skin - and wonderful thick hair. She looked really well and pretty and fresh, and she was wearing a lovely pale-yellow dress.”
