Kim Cattrall wishes she had enjoyed making Sex and the City "a little bit more".

The actress played man-eating businesswoman Samantha Jones in the hugely successful US TV show and subsequent movie spin-offs. Having been involved for six seasons, Kim admits the experience was all-consuming at times.

“You always wish that you’d had more of a sense of humour about it,” she told UK newspaper The Times. “That you’d enjoyed it a little bit more. We were always feeling the pressure of the schedule; we shot two shows at the same time; 19-hour days almost every week.”

Kim starred in the show alongside Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Sarah Jessica Parker - who was also a producer. It was widely reported that Kim was unhappy with her contract and wanted the four actresses to be on a more equal pay structure, since Sarah Jessica was earning more. Kim was prepared for a film to go ahead without her rather than be paid less than another cast member, and although she was pitched against her co-stars she is happy she negotiated a better deal.

"Again, I think it’s because of my age; I didn’t ever want to be on a set or a stage where I don’t feel valued, and I felt that we were being undervalued,” she explained.

The 56-year-old actress famously romanced a string of men on the small screen. Kim is currently single and admits her character's reputation for intimidating men still impacts her in real life.

"Yes, some men are scared, but they are not men I am interested in,” she smiled, before revealing what she looks for in a man. “Intelligence. Sex starts in the brain.”

During the interview, Kim insists she has no plans to retire any time soon.

She is currently playing a fading Hollywood star in a London theatre production of Tennessee Williams' Sweet Bird of Youth.

Although the star has moved on from her Sex and the City role, she still shows some signs of Samantha's straight-talking attitude - and doesn't shy away from discussing personal matters.

“It’s like being pregnant,” Kim said of going through the menopause. “The [assistant] director is pregnant, so hormonally we are probably very similar. I forget something, have a menopausal moment. Yes, things are changing.”
