Tina Fey is glad she's not actually sisters with Amy Poehler, as the chances they would both make it are slim.
There are a few famous siblings out there, like Chris and Liam Hemsworth, Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal and Kylie and Dannii Minogue, but it's rare for a whole family to make it into the limelight. Tina and Amy may regard each other as sisters, but Tina's pleased they have different parents.
“If we’d grown up as sisters it would be like, ‘We can’t both grow up and do this,'" Tina laughed to Britain's Stylist magazine. "We can’t both be on Saturday Night Live'. That would be weird. That would have messed it up.”
Their sibling-like bond has come in handy for their new movie though, called Sisters. It tells the story of the Ellis girls throwing one last house party before their mum and dad sell the family home.
“We feel like sisters,” Amy smiled. “We’ve known each other for 20 years now and a lot about being a family is having those experiences and remembering someone from when you’re trying to figure out who you’re supposed to be.
"Tina and I met each other in Chicago in the mid-'90s when we were on the path where we weren’t quite sure what we were going to be.”
Tina and Amy have worked side by side frequently over the years, on everything from SNL, to Mean Girls, to hosting the Golden Globes together three times. This has led to their tight bond, and with Christmas round the corner, Amy knows exactly what she'd buy her best friend - if they shared gifts that is.
"I could get her something luxurious like a cashmere blanket but I also think I could tell Tina, 'I bought you a cow,'" Amy joked. "But Tina and I do what good friends do, which is we don’t expect presents from each other. I’m a grown adult. I don’t need a Christmas present. We haven’t bought each other presents for a while.
"When we were all at SNL together we would buy gifts," Tina added.
