Actor John Krasinski “blew” his daughter’s mind when he referred to Father Christmas as Santa Claus over the festive holidays.
The American comedy star raises Hazel, who turns two this month (Feb16), with his British wife Emily Blunt and has experienced a few language barriers since his daughter learnt to speak. While people in the UK often refer to the jolly man in a red suit as Father Christmas, many in the US know him as Santa Claus – and this difference sparked a host of conversations in the Krasinski household during Christmas 2015.
“Well, she had a big shock before Christmas, because we watch (cartoon) Peppa Pig in our house who talks about Father Christmas,” John recalled during an interview with Britain’s Hello! magazine. “And then when I came along and called him Santa Claus instead she realised that I was talking about the same person, she got very confused – I think I blew her little brain.”
John is happy to navigate any language issues with Hazel and Emily, insisting he loves hearing a British accent. Although the family spend most of their time in the US, little Hazel is picking up some phrasing from her famous actress mother.
“She’s actually got a little bit of a British accent right now,” John said. “She calls Emily ‘Mummy’ and says ‘wah-tah’ instead of ‘water’, which is just adorable to me.”
It was recently announced that John and Emily are expecting another baby, due in the summer (16).
The actor has no fears about expanding their happy family, as he is so impressed by how Emily has adjusted to motherhood.
“She is the best mom that I could ever imagine,” he smiled. “When you become a mother, you show a whole new side of yourself – and for Emily, it happened immediately. The exact moment our daughter arrived, she turned into this unbelievably caring and loving mother and I learn from her about parenthood every day.”
