Scott Eastwood is reportedly in early discussions for a key role in the Pacific Rim follow-up.
Clint Eastwood's son is said to be in talks with producers at Legendary Pictures to star alongside Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor John Boyega in the sequel to the 2013 action/sci-fi, which followed a team of heroes battling giant sea creatures, according to Deadline.com.
In June (16), it was announced that John would be playing the son of Idris Elba's character, Stacker Pentecost, who was killed off in the original, and his company Upper Room Productions will co-produce the movie, which currently has the working title Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.
No further details about new cast or storylines have been revealed, but stars Charlie Hunnam, Max Martini and Ron Perlman are rumoured to be returning for the sequel, which is due for release on 23 February, 2018.
Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro was on board to helm the sequel and had been working on a follow-up since 2014, but the project kept being pushed back. In February (16), it was revealed Guillermo would no longer be directing and instead will serve as producer/writer under Steven. S DeKnight, who has previously only directed episodes of TV shows such as Daredevil, Smallville, and Angel.
This wouldn't be Scott's first time joining a franchise; he was recently cast in Furious 8, the next instalment of the Fast and Furious series, and is set to play a trainee working under Kurt Russell's character Mr. Nobody.
Scott, 30, was friends with Paul Walker, who died in a car crash in 2013 while still shooting Furious 7, and Scott hopes to make his late pal proud.
"Paul was a close friend of mine," Scott previously explained on Instagram. "We surfed together, traveled together, and he was a huge role model and influencing figure in my life when I was younger. He still is. He was an older brother to me. For me to be able to add to the F&F story, Paul's story, and the FAST family is like a dream come true... Paul - I am going to make you proud."
Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren have also joined the franchise, which stars Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, and Michelle Rodriguez.
