Actress Zoe Saldana's quality of life is not impeded by her Hashimoto's Thyroiditis diagnosis.
The Guardians of the Galaxy star revealed she was battling the autoimmune disease, which causes the body's immune system to attack the thyroid gland, last week (ends22Jul16).
But despite having to switch to a gluten-free diet, she told Extra she "feels great", adding: "Sometimes, it’s good to share little things of what your struggles are.
"It's not impeding my quality of life. It just means I have to be a little more conscientious of how I live and what I put into my body because I have this predisposed situation.”
The 38-year-old first made the admission to Net-A-Porter's Edit magazine, revealing how the disease makes her constantly feel rundown, and as if she's always fighting off an infection.
"Your body doesn't have the energy it needs to filter toxins, causing it to believe that it has an infection, so it's always inflamed," the mother-of-two explained. "You create antibodies that attack your glands, so you have to eat clean."
Despite her illness, which causes sufferers to experience fatigue and in some cases, suffer hair loss, Zoe has maintained an impressive work schedule, starring in current blockbuster Star Trek Beyond, as well as recently completing filming on the sequel to Marvel hit, Guardians of the Galaxy, which is set for release in May next year (17).
Zoe isn't the only star to battle the thyroid disease - fellow actresses Gina Rodriguez and Victoria Justice also suffer from the disorder, with the former Nickelodeon beauty revealing to Health magazine it had caused her weight to fluctuate dramatically.
