Kiefer Sutherland wanted the first time he made a movie with his father, Hunger Games star Donald Sutherland, to be perfect.

The Canadian star finally shares the silver screen with his 81-year-old actor father in Forsaken, a Western about a gunman who tries to rebuild a relationship with his dad as their hometown is targeted by land-grabbers.

Kiefer has already admitted he was slightly nervous at first to work alongside his award-winning parent, but once the anxiety passed he focused on making it the best possible feature he could.

"I'm surprised it took quite as long as it did but there have been different points in both of our career where we have more or less been in demand," Kiefer told Britain's Metro newspaper. "Being less in demand means you are available to make the film but it's very hard to raise the money; being more in demand means it's easier to raise the money but hard to find the time. I'm not going to get the chance to make three films with my dad. I will probably only get to do it once, so it has to be right."

Donald has had a long and illustrious career since making his acting debut in the '60s. From critically acclaimed 1971 movie Klute, war drama MASH and more recently The Hunger Games franchise.

In 1995 he won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for TV drama Citizen X.

Kiefer is just as busy, in 2017 fans can see the 49-year-old in the remake of his hit 1990 movie Flatliners, in which he played a medical student who convinced his classmates to help him explore what happens after death.

Although his new character hasn't been confirmed, the 24 star is almost certain that he'll be reprising Nelson, this time as a professor at a medical university.

"I loved making the first film and when I was asked if I would be interested in taking part in this (film), it didn't take more than a minute for me to say yes," he added.

Next Kiefer can be seen in upcoming political TV series Designated Survivor.
