Juliette Binoche dreams of starring in a "ridiculous" comedy.

The French actress has become known for her serious roles on the silver screen, like her Oscar-winning part as a nurse during WWII in 1996's The English Patient and as a chocolatier in 2000's Chocolat. However, she admits she's secretly hoping to one day to feature in a funny flick, having grown up being a big fan of one famous comedy actor.

"The first films I saw were Charlie Chaplin films and they deeply imprinted on me," she told Britain's The Independent newspaper. "I could be laughing or in tears, and it made me feel alive. Maybe through time, I’m not scared to be more and more ridiculous. I believe the more you live, the better you are, there are perfumes coming out of your unconscious, because of what you experience in life."

Her father was also quite the comic and often wore masks as a mime artist to perform for her and her friends, leaving the actress desperate to follow in his funny footsteps.

And Juliette shares that her own children now have an influence on the movies she chooses to appear in now. The 52-year-old has a son Raphael, 22, and daughter Hana, 16, who both like to have an input on their mother's career.

"My children asked me to go and make Godzilla and Ghost in the Shell," she smiled. "Ghost was shot in New Zealand and I felt like being away for a month-and-a-half on the other side of the world was too much, especially after I’d been away touring Antigone on stage, and I felt like it was too long a trip, and they couldn’t come. But they gave me permission.”

Although she knows she wants to step into a new genre of film one day, Juliette doesn't have any other plans for the future. She believes her path will come to her over time, and she'll simply follow it for as long as she can.
