Kate Hudson has chosen to forgive her father Bill after he announced his kids were dead to him a year ago (Jun15).

The actress' estranged father has been at odds with his ex-wife Goldie Hawn and their kids Oliver and Kate for years, attacking them in tabloid articles.

And matters came to a head last summer (15) when he announced his biological kids, who had adopted Goldie's longtime boyfriend Kurt Russell as their 'Pa', were no longer part of his life.

Kate was initially upset by her father's remarks, but she has chosen to take the high road in the family dispute.

During a candid chat with satellite radio shock jock Howard Stern on Wednesday (28Sep16), the Almost Famous star said, "I think forgiveness in any aspect is something that is complex. It is the greatest tool to be able to separate that attachment. So for me, I recognise whatever those issues are is something he has to live with. That must be painful for him and I forgive him."

But she insists that whatever her dad might think, she never grew up resenting him - and her mother never bad-mouthed Bill.

"My mom never spoke poorly of him," she told Stern. "I was a real tough little girl. I understood what was going on, I did understand that it didn't have to do with me and Oliver."

But she was glad when 'stepdad' Kurt Russell arrived on the scene: "The trust I got from him in terms of his dependability was priceless for me.

"He is so honest, so brutally honest. I love him so much; he is just a great guy. He is an original. He doesn't buy into things."

And Kate has now had the chance to work with her Pa - the pair team up as castmates in new real-life disaster film Deepwater Horizon.
