Joseph Gordon-Levitt dropped by The Hits breakfast studio last week to talk to Tom Green about his upcoming film Snowden. The film tells the story of Edward Snowden and the build up to the NSA surveillance leak with Joseph playing the lead role.

When asked about the current state of US Politics after the election of Donald Trump, Joseph spoke about the growing worry in America that mass surveillance could become a real issue. He believes Trump is far more likely to resort to dirty tactics to keep tabs on his enemies.

He went onto reveal his grandfather was blacklisted in the entertainment business due to his attendance at left-wing meetings.

Finally, when asked about the possibility of a role in the next Magic Mike film Joseph wasn’t keen, but he did admit him and Channing Tatum are working on a musical together. The film is being written by 21 Jump Street writer Michael Bacall and Joseph is extremely excited about it.

Joseph on Trump… “A lot of people I know didn’t feel so strongly about mass surveillance until we got a new President elect. He is someone you can much more easily imagine taking advantage of mass surveillance tools to spy on or discredit those who oppose him all of a sudden those mass surveillance tools seem a lot scarier.”

Joseph on his grandfather being blacklisted… “It wasn’t that long ago that the American government did step in and mess with film makers, in fact my grandfather was a film director and he was black listed. He had been to a few, what they called ‘communist meetings’ and the US government deemed it un-American.”

Joseph on making a musical with Channing Tatum… “Chan and I are working on a musical and my friend Michael Bacall is writing it, he wrote 21 Jump Street. There are no guarantees in the movie business just because a script is getting written that doesn’t mean a movie will be made but I think this could be really good. Chan and I have wanted to do a musical for years, I really hope it works out.”

Joseph on Inception 2… “I would be very surprised, that movie has a perfect ending why would you want to make another one?”

Joseph on starring in Magic Mike… “I did a Magic Mike routine on SNL, do we need an hour and a half of it? Do we need it?!”
