Ryan Reynolds credits wife Blake Lively for teaching him to be a more "empathetic" person.

The Deadpool actor stepped out with his actress wife at the Met Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York on Monday night (01May17).

Ryan, 40, sported a navy Versace tuxedo which complemented Blake's custom-made Atelier Versace gold and blue gown, but it wasn't just their outfits that stole the show, with the couple taking a moment to gush about each other to Humans of New York photographer Brandon Stanton.

"She always responds with empathy," Ryan told the famed blogger, according to an Instagram post. "She meets anger with empathy. She meets hate with empathy. She'll take the time to imagine what happened to a person when they were five or six years old. And she's made me a more empathetic person."

The former Green Lantern co-stars married in 2012 and share two daughters, James, two, and seven-month-old Ines. As well as sharing a family, Ryan also admitted that 29-year-old Blake helped him repair his relationship with his father James Reynolds, before his death in 2015.

"I had a very fractured relationship with my father. Before he died, she made me remember things I didn't want to remember. She made me remember the good times," he added.

Ryan's message comes days after Blake took her husband down a peg in a funny Instagram post on Thursday (27Apr17), with a little input from singer John Legend.

"Congratulations to the most influential person in my life," she captioned a close-up snap of her beau, who was being honoured at the recent Time 100 event. "The best man I know... you deserve this @time 100 honor... If only my husband wasn't blocking you in this shot. I'm so sorry @johnlegend."
