Carrie Coon has been unveiled as the villain in upcoming Marvel blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War.

The Gone Girl star will voice the role of Proxima Midnight in the movie, according to co-director Joe Russo.

"Carrie Coon is Proxima Midnight," he tells Radio Times. "You may know her from season three of Fargo or The Leftovers."

Meanwhile, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor is voicing the role of Proxima's fellow Black Order villains Ebony Maw and Terry Notary will take on Cull Obsidian in the movie, which is scheduled to hit cinemas on 27 April (18).

It's already a big year for actress Coon, who became a first-time mum last month (Mar18). The star and her husband, stage and screen veteran Tracy Letts, welcomed little Haskell Letts on 13 March (18) at Evanston Hospital in Illinois.

Coon told Rolling Stone magazine that she raced to the hospital when she went into labour, stating, "I'm doing pretty well, considering. I grew up in a family with five kids. I grew up with babies. So babies have never been particularly intimidating to me."

Coon has called the newborn her "Spielberg baby", because she got pregnant while filming the director's The Post with Letts.

The actress confirmed reports she was pregnant at the Critics' Choice Awards in Santa Monica, California in January (18) after sporting what looked like a baby bump on the red carpet.

She said, "We've got a little boy on the way... I feel great. I've had a really good, easy time, so that means he'll probably be a little hellion when he comes out!"
