Rami Malek has joked that "awkward" footage of Nicole Kidman snubbing his greeting onstage at the Golden Globes is "haunting him on the Internet".
The former Mr. Robot star won the Golden Globe for best actor in a drama for playing late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody on Sunday (06Jan19), and shortly afterwards the film itself was awarded the Best Motion Picture - Drama prize, which was presented by the Moulin Rouge! star.
Rami came back on stage from the wings to celebrate with the film's producers, which include Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor, and was seen stepping towards Nicole and raising his hands as if to greet her, but she doesn't see and turns away, although she later gives him a smile as the producers are giving their speeches.
The 37-year-old was shown the viral clip during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday night and he found the funny side of their awkward encounter.
"I had not seen that!" he said. "I've known her for many years, despite (what) it may seem from that video, so I thought I could easily go up and say hi but in a moment like that it was... very awkward. I have a feeling this is probably haunting me on the Internet."
However, he noted that he "got love" from the Australian actress' husband Keith Urban, who is a "massive Queen fan". Rami was seated at a table with Brian and Roger and marvelled at how many celebrities would come up and "fan out" over them during the evening.
When asked if the rockers enjoyed the night, he replied, "It wasn't necessarily their scene. I think they wanted to enjoy it, it was an exceptional night for everybody, but they're used to being rock stars and doing rock star things and that was a very Hollywood industry night which I had a blast at. They had a great time but I think at first it took some getting used to."
The actor received a BAFTA nomination for his role on Wednesday.
