Singer/actor Tyrese Gibson has been forced to allow his daughter to enroll in a school soccer programme after clashing with his ex-wife over the extracurricular activity.

The Fate of the Furious star was granted joint custody of 11-year-old Shayla with her mother, Norma Gibson in late 2017 after a bitter court battle, during which Tyrese was accused of being abusive during their marriage and spanking their kid so hard she couldn't sit down.

Despite the custody ruling, they have repeatedly disagreed over parenting issues, and their latest spat concerns the little girl's interest in playing soccer.

According to TMZ, Norma wanted to sign Shayla up for the sport, but Tyrese refused, claiming their daughter should be focusing on improving her poor grades in class.

Her dad's ban reportedly left Shayla "emotionally devastated", so Norma took the dispute to court, arguing the unfair decision has made the pre-teen cry and feel so "humiliated", she "does not want to go to school".

Now the judge overseeing their custody case has found in Norma's favour, although when Shayla is in her father's care, Tyrese is not obligated to let her play.

The two sides are due back in court for further discussion about the issue next month (Feb19).

Tyrese was previously accused of upsetting his daughter in October (18), when he forbid Shayla from playing basketball, although he eventually relented. He was also said to be against allowing his kid taking part in a school play, objecting to the cost, until Norma agreed to cover half of the fees, while the court papers filed by his ex detail another parenting disagreement over a school trip, during which Tyrese allegedly demanded Shayla be taken off the bus mid-journey.

The former couple was married from 2007 to 2009.

Tyrese has since settled down with his second wife Samantha, and they welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Princess Soraya, in October (18).
