Vanessa Redgrave is still struggling with her daughter Natasha Richardson's death almost 10 years after her tragic skiing accident.
The late actress, who was married to actor Liam Neeson, passed away following a fall on the slopes in March, 2009, and Redgrave insists time has not healed her pain.
"That would seem to me to say that suddenly it's OK, and it's not," Redgrave tells People magazine. "It never becomes OK."
The veteran actress and her other daughter, Joely Richardson, insist Natasha's death has strengthened their family as a unit and nowadays they all try to focus on the important things in their lives.
"You are different," Joely says. "You aren't stronger or weaker. Just different - changed. What we have done well as a family is that, in honouring and supporting one another, we reformed to become a strong, loving unit."
"In my case, I treasure my family much, much more because you realise that the difference between being alive and dead is the difference of a little fingernail," Redgrave adds. "I think that makes you more aware and more caring."
Vanessa and Joely are also grateful to be able to spend time together while working - the two actresses recently shot new film The Aspern Papers. The project is the fourth time they have teamed up onscreen, having previously scored credits in 1968's The Charge of the Light Brigade, film Weatherby, and TV drama Nip/Tuck.
"Try to find the joy in life because we are so lucky to be here," Joely says. "Every day, every birthday that goes by, I'm just so grateful."
