Lee Daniels has teased plans to make a film featuring a gay superhero.
The filmmaker, who is openly gay, is one of Hollywood's most successful names, having directed movies such as Precious and The Butler, and co-created popular television shows such as Empire and Star.
Now, it appears Daniels is turning his attention to tackling a whole new project, as he recently took to Instagram to upload a video of himself with online sensation Super B**ch, also known as Dremon Cooper.
"Do you all remember maybe 10, 12 years ago I said my dream was to make a gay superhero film?" Daniels asked. "Dreams do come true. And I found my superhero. America, world, get ready."
While Cooper commented: "It's about to happen, Super B**ch is here with the Lee Daniels... I'm about to give y'all a combo."
In the accompanying caption for the clip, Daniels explained that his gay superhero project would not be his next film but is "in the pipeline".
Cooper, who is known for his YouTube videos in which he wears bright pink high heel boots as he pretends to fight crime by cartwheeling and flipping in public spaces, also shared the announcement on his Instagram page, and wrote, "Dreams really do come true!! I had the pleasure of meeting the one and only @theoriginalbigdaddy. You're an amazing man filled with great ideas. I can wait to work with you!"
Representation for the LGBTQ community in superhero films has been the topic of much discussion in recent years, and many fans were quick to praise the makers of Spider-Man: Far From Home, after the newly unveiled trailer revealed that the cast included two openly transgender actors.
At present, Daniels is also attached to make Terms of Endearment, a remake of the 1983 film of the same name which explored the complex relationship between a mother and her dying daughter.
