Ryan Reynolds cancels arm surgery to promote Deadpool in China

Ryan Reynolds postponed his arm surgery to attend the premiere of Deadpool 2 in China over the weekend (19-20Jan19).

Earlier this month (Jan19), a re-cut PG-13 version of the movie sequel scored a release in the conservative country and Reynolds, who injured his left arm while shooting the film, explains it was important for him to be at the premiere - despite having to be in New York for surgery.

"It's been a dream of mine for years to bring Deadpool to China and Chinese audiences, so for me this is, uh, heaven on earth," he told Beijing fans at the premiere. "This was more important. I was not going to miss coming to China."

According to Variety, the movie will be released under a title that translates to Deadpool 2: I Love My Family. The more family-friendly version of the anti-superhero film, Once Upon a Deadpool, was released last month (Dec18) in the U.S. and a portion of the nearly $7 million (£5.4 million) in proceeds went to the F**k Cancer campaign, which aims to raise awareness and educate people about early cancer detection.

The majority of footage featured in Once Upon a Deadpool was taken from the May (18) release, but it was edited to remove excessive violence and bad language so it would meet the PG-13 rating. It also included new clips conceived by Ryan and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to fit into the existing story line.

"I've said no (to making a more kid-friendly Deadpool film) since 2006," Reynolds said about the PG-13-rated project. "Now, this one time, I said 'Yes' on (the condition that) a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity..."
