Irish actor Cillian Murphy will host a radio show on BBC 6 Music once a week from March (19).

The Peaky Blinders star will host the U.K. show for two hours on a Sunday afternoon from March until the summer to fill in for Elbow frontman Guy Garvey, who is taking an extended break from the radio station to work on his next album.

"As a music lover, mixtape obsessive and long-time 6 Music fan I couldn’t be more chuffed to be asked to sit in for Guy on his hiatus," the Dunkirk actor said in a statement. "His show has been a constant companion for me and my family on Sunday afternoons for many years now, and it will be an honour to pick the tunes in that slot for a while. 6Music is the best radio station in the world and I look forward to becoming a temporary houseguest!"

Cillian, who pursued a career as a musician before moving into acting, is no stranger to BBC 6 Music. He previously presented one-off shows including The Sound of Cinema and a programme about his favourite artists and Irish musicians.

"We're delighted Cillian will be joining 6 Music for the next few months," Paul Rodgers, head of BBC Radio 6 Music, added. "His music selections are always interesting and I think listeners will love hearing him on 6 Music on Sunday afternoons."

The 42-year-old will present the show, which had been called Guy Garvey's Finest Hour, from 3 March, and it will air between 2pm and 4pm every Sunday.

Cillian has other ties to the BBC - he has reprised his Peaky Blinders character Tommy Shelby for a fifth season of the series which is set to air on BBC Two later in 2019.
