Dwayne Johnson has deleted a picture of his three-year-old daughter swimming without a bathing suit after facing backlash from fans.

The 47-year-old had shared the picture on Instagram with fans, which showed the sweet moment his daughter Jasmine, who was sitting on the side of a swimming pool nude, was about to jump into his arms.

The post had garnered nearly three million "likes" from Johnson's followers, including David Beckham and Josh Brolin, before the screen star decided to take it down.

He deleted the picture on Monday morning, after negative comments made by several fans apparently forced him to rethink the snap.

"I love the Rock but this pic isn't necessary for social media. They made bathing suits for a reason," one person wrote, while another added, "Why would you expose a young child's body to millions of people?"

Others defended the actor, with one commenting: "Those who are sexualising this picture of his daughter because she is swimming with no clothes on obviously don't know what it's like to grow up in the islands or in a Polynesian house hold (sic). This is very normal and not sexual in any way with our culture."

Johnson's mother Ata Johnson is Samoan, and the star spent some time living with her family in New Zealand as a youngster before he returned to the United States to finish his schooling in Hawaii.

The Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star has yet to comment on the furore surrounding the picture.

Johnson shares daughters Jasmine and 13-month-old Tiana with partner Lauren Hashian. He is also father to 17-year-old Simone from his previous marriage to Dany Garcia.
