Nina is killed in a bike accident and the love of her (and his) life Rob feels empty. He tries to kill himself but fails as it seems he does everything else. Then along comes Holly, the shelf staking trainee paramedic. She wants to heal Rob and maybe even just f**k him a little as well. He is hot and vulnerable, so when she goes to his place it looks like its on. Then she finds out that although Nina is dead, her presence in the place they called home is anything but...

I rarely come out of a film and find it has shook me to the core. Take the first time I saw Alien or Rear Window and you can see that I was awe struck...Dont worry that is less the case here but I was amazed at how the film turned out. You see I expect something from first time film makers. I also expect something from British, first time film makers. Often however I do not find that I am paid back for my expectation. Here I was and in a very big way. The film is well composed as a visual piece. It has great charectorisation. It has a very dark sardonic humour and is clever in its use of it. The Blaine bros have built a very unexpected and slightly unnerving film. They have you shifting in your seat and struck by the beauty and horror of Fiona O'Shaughnessy, who even in her undead state kinda turned me on. Then you had two lead actors that you not only bought but also connected with. Finally however was the sub text and the deeper elements to this gem.

You see, a great film for me has layers and this has many. I loved its take on the concept of true love and the idea that this never dies for some people. It carries this theme along very well, adding mileage to an idea that could have run its course quickly. i loved how it fleshed out, with all that blood and gore, the many twists and twisted pulses that make people want each other and how sometimes that is hard to forget. You see even after Nina dies, Rob cant forget her. Her cant let her go and she is everywhere. Like a bad smell or a dead rotting corpse.... This is amazing stuff. First timers that I hope will get a chance to spread their wings and make another film.

The DVD is also tasty with the interviewers and the Blaine boys talking about the film in some detail. It adds to the layers and also shows that they are interesting and relevant film makers. Rare today and so much what we need at a time of superhero stools...
