The black sand island, sun scorched by day and barren by night is the home of a group of pale skinned, ginger haired people. The white houses they inhabit are like islands of sinister dread. The hospital on the other side of the island is a twisted haunted place. When a young boy find the body of a child in the water, his world will change forever.

Sometimes a film comes along and ticks every single box in its way. It makes you emotionally connected, charged, compelled and captivated. Sometimes a film can be nothing more than empty headed, flash and bangs. That cant always be bad and in truth it can be entertaining in its way. Fear not however as this film is so good that I would compel you to pine for these things in every film you will see. A genre ball of horror (some say body horror but I say classical fear of self) and a nightmare scape of science fiction parable and surreal person in a mystery of identity dream. All within the space of 80 minutes and keeps you watching as it unfolds and the ugly reality is revealed. This should be wanted by anyone that has at least an interest in film that says something and does something else.

Visually stunning but so stripped back and minimal as to be seen as a film without mise en scene. The space is the mise en scene and its emptyness are haunted and upsetting. The impending fear of the world is reflected in performances that are abstract and darkly hypnotic. The child at the centre captures bewildermethis reveal with such conviction that I jumped up and argued his case. The make up is divine and then you have the soundtrack. Musically it pulses and the haunting tones upset and unbalances so well. Brilliant, Brilliant, Brillaint....
