The number of Hollywood celebrities using electronic cigarettes seems to be growing every day. So do the instances in which devices are showing up in television and film. The latest example, according to an alert House of Cards viewer and member of the E-Cigarette Forum is none other than A-list actor Kevin Spacey. The viewer claims to have recently watched the entire second season of the series, catching Spacey's character vaping after his wife throws out his tobacco cigarettes.

If you're unaware, the American version of House of Cards is in an adaptation of the popular UK show from a number of years ago. It is one of the more popular streaming television shows available exclusively to Netflix subscribers. House of Cards has received very good reviews in the States despite some questionable casting choices.

It will be interesting to see how the US media reacts should the news of the above vaping scene ever become widely known. We say that after watching them freak out in response to actress Julia Louise Dreyfus vaping during the 2014 Golden Globes award show. In the days following that telecast, you would have thought the world was about to end in America over an e-cigarette.

Getting back to House of Cards for just a moment, there's no word as to what brand of e-cigarette Spacey's character was using. Was it a VAPESTICK Electronic Cigarette' Was it a generic brand' It probably does not matter as much as the fact that his character both vaped and explained, in no uncertain terms, that he was not smoking. Subconsciously or not, the producers of House of Cards inadvertently implied that e-cigarettes are a viable tobacco substitute.

Lots of Choices

Hollywood e-cig views aside, there are plenty of choices for consumers looking to try e-cigarettes. There are literally dozens of companies now in the business, selling everything from disposable e-cigarettes to rechargeable starter kits to loads of accessories. You can even buy gourmet liquid from companies with intriguing names like Totally Wicked.

One thing we can say for sure is that the e-cigarette that came out of China way back in 2004 is not the same product smokers are using today. Back then, there was only a classically styled device intended to look just like tobacco cigarettes, even down to the glowing gold tip. Things are a lot different today.

The modern electronic cigarette comes in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colours. In fact, some are barely recognisable as an alternative smoking device due to designs intentionally implemented to separate the practice of vaping from smoking. At the same time, more classic looking models are still available if you prefer that look. Some companies are even selling electronic cigars and pipes!

Celebrity Vapers on the Rise

Given the belief that art imitates life, it should be no surprise to see vaping beginning to show itself in mainstream film and television. After all, there are now millions of people around the world using e-cigarettes. However, the number of celebrity vapers who do so outside of their work is also growing. Here is just a small sample:

• Leonardo DiCaprio
• Johnny Depp
• Ronnie Wood
• Catherine Heigl
• Sweet Harlots
• Robert Pattison
• Kristen Stewart.

We suspect Kevin Spacey will not be the last actor to use an e-cigarette for art. Nor do we expect the number of real-life celebrity vapers to decrease anytime soon. The fact is that vaping has risen to take the place of smoking in Hollywood and beyond. There is no reason to believe protests from government officials and anti-smoking advocates will change that.
