Jessica Alba’s The Honest Company has released a statement in light of customer complaints regarding its sunscreen products.

It was reported on Sunday that the business had come under fire from consumers who had bought its sun cream products. Many posted pictures of their sunburn on social media despite using the SPF 30 product and on Monday the company came out to defend itself.

“The Honest Company is committed to providing safe and effective products, and we take all consumer feedback very seriously,” the statement began. “Our Sunscreen Lotion was tested, by an independent 3rd party, against the protocols prescribed by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) monograph for over-the-counter sunscreen products. The results showed that our product is effective and safe for use as an 80 minute water-resistant (FDA’s highest rating), SPF 30 sunscreen lotion in accordance with FDA regulations when used as directed.”

It then went on to reiterate the directions as applying it liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure and then reapplying every 80 minutes if swimming or sweating otherwise every two hours.

The 34-year-old co-founded The Honest Company in 2012. It was revealed earlier this year that the brand had been valued at $1 billion and while it isn’t clear if the complaints received were by people who had been using the sun screen properly, the company insisted that the negative feedback overall was minimal.

“The number of complaints received on our own website about our Sunscreen Lotion constitute less than one half of one percent of all units actually sold at honest.com,” it added in the statement.
