Amanda Bynes was allegedly kicked out of fashion school for being "out of control".
The 28-year-old actress has been studying at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Irvine, enrolling once she’d recovered from being forcibly hospitalised last July for demonstrating erratic behaviour.
She was thought to be getting things back on track but in the early hours of Sunday she was taken into police custody on suspicion of driving under the influence, and she was later charged with a misdemeanour. It has since been reported she used Adderall, prescribed by her doctor, before getting in the car, as well as possibly smoking marijuana and not taking other prescribed medication.
TMZ reports the former child star had shown signs of trouble at school for a while, with classmates claiming she was "out of control" and offering money to others to complete her homework.
Student Rachel Loritz alleged Amanda would rarely turn up for lectures, and when she did she was "clearly high" but tried to hide it behind sunglasses. In addition to bursting into giggles at inappropriate times, Rachel claimed the actress would start "horrendous arguments" and got angry when reportedly caught cheating during a test.
All these antics reportedly led to Amanda being let go from the facility in September.
During her problems last year the star was forcibly hospitalised and then released into rehab. There were rumours she was suffering from a mental illness and she was made the subject of a conservatorship order before she went home. This put her parents in charge of her affairs, but this week her father Rick admitted he and her mother Lynn were clueless about her arrest as they hadn’t seen her for some time. The conservatorship is believed to have come to an end recently.
Despite her troubles, Amanda's mom and dad are reportedly unwilling to re-establish a new order, and multiple sources have told TMZ the pair do not believe their child has a mental illness.
Those close to Rick and Lynn are thought to be urging them to take Amanda back into their care and believe she needs to be put on a 5150 psychiatric hold - which is used when people are deemed a danger to themselves and others.
