Amy Adams had a "really big crush" on Leonardo DiCaprio.
The actress developed her infatuation with the actor after seeing him in movies including Titanic.
She described her high expectations when she got the chance to star alongside her crush in the film that saw her hit the big time.
“When I did Catch Me If You Can, in 2002, I had a really big crush on Leonardo DiCaprio," Amy admitted to W magazine. "I had fixated on him in Growing Pains and in Titanic. I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, if I ever work with Leo, it will be wonderful.’"
In the movie Amy played naïve candy striper Brenda Strong who is wooed by Leonardo's con man character. The 38-year-old says filming up close and personal scenes with her idol Leo turned out to be disappointing. Now an acclaimed star in her own right, The Master actress reflected on the awkwardness of the romantic scenes she shot with her crush.
"And then, there I was, with pigtails - looking not at all like Gisele [Bündchen], whom he was dating at the time," Amy recalled. "I figured my chances were pretty slim, so I just focused on the work.”
Her resolve to channel her attention into her performance rather than her co-star paid off for Amy. She recently scored her fourth Oscar nomination for best supporting actress playing Philip Seymour Hoffman's commanding wife in The Master. She has matched that success in her personal life, by getting engaged to actor-and-artist Darren Le Gallo and giving birth to their daughter Aviana in 2010.
"It's unreal [the feeling of getting nominated for an Oscar award] Each one has been - the first one was so crazy - each one has had its own set of circumstances. I'm very relaxed this year about it all. I'm just so proud to be in this film. That was my victory. It's validating. I'm so happy to be going," Amy told USA Today earlier this month. "I'm more laidback. [My daughter] likes the dresses. But aside from that' I'm pretty content in life right now. That's part of it. It's not that I'm not excited. I just recognise that my priorities are in order."
