Amy Poehler: Follow Beyoncé's lead

Amy Poehler turns to Beyoncé Knowles in her time of need.

The blonde actress is one of Hollywood's funniest stars but recently got serious when she released her frank memoir Yes Please. Subjects covered include drug use and divorce, but Amy peppers the book with her witty sense of humour. One chapter is titled Treat your career like a bad boyfriend, which she says should be taken as motherly advice.

In real life a mixture of Beyoncé's lyrics and her good friends give her all the counsel she needs.

"I will say that I feel like Beyoncé tells us the right thing. When in doubt, turn to Beyoncé," Amy laughed to British magazine Stylist. "My lovely, wonderful friend [stand-up comedian] Neal Brennan was hilariously talking about what women want these days, like do we want this masculine man or a young, kind of adorable guy' I was teasing him and said, 'Oh, so you're finding that society is asking you to be all things at once' That's what every single woman has to deal with every day.' The way out is to support each other and to give each other advice and to lean on each other and to stop classifying everybody into these really small boxes. Just give each other a break!"

Amy is also close to her comedy partner in crime Tina Fey, and they've been busy working on new film The Nest together.

Admitting she sees herself as a feminist, the 43-year-old likes to be surrounded by friends she can rely on and trust.

"I think the older you get, the more you meet really high-quality friends. That's never spoken about. There's a lot of focus on meeting your friends when you're young; every movie and TV show of the past ten years is about young love and young friends. But I find as you get older you just get to know yourself better and you know the people you want to be around and people come in and out of your life who match where you are," she explained.
