Amy Schumer feels like she’s being punished in press junkets.
The 34-year-old comedienne made her big screen debut in Trainwreck, which she also wrote. The movie has been well received by critics and audiences, but Amy admits promoting the movie hasn’t been as much fun as making it.
“This is my first time doing it, but it’s just so ridiculous,” she told British newspaper The Guardian regarding press junkets. “I don’t want to dress like a d**khead and talk about myself. A lot of it feels like I’m being punished for doing something that I’m proud of. Imagine all day having to talk about your writing. Wouldn’t you just run a warm bath and open your wrists?”
While Amy loves to be funny, she also makes a point of putting feminist messages across in her work and through speeches where possible. One of her most notable ones was at the 2014 Gloria Awards but she insists she has never set out with a specific agenda in mind.
“It’s just who I am,” she explained. “So it happened naturally, just being myself. I think feminists are in good hands with me.”
Amy isn’t the only female celebrity speaking out for her peers. But when asked if she felt part of a movement with the likes of Lena Dunham and Tina Fey, the star shook her head.
“I’ve never thought of that before, but it sounds good, though,” she added. “I’d love to be part of a movement. I feel very connected to people like Tina or Lena because it feels like we have the same goal in mind.”
