With studio titles like the recent Miss You Already, Revolver and The Devil’s Double to his name, London born actor Mem Ferda is very much a Hollywood player. However, this modest British talent, hasn’t forgotten the importance of supporting low budget British Independent Filmmakers.

Nowhere is this more evident than his latest lead role in the 23rd Raindance Film Festival selected feature My Hero. Here we see Mem deliver a stand-out, riveting performance as, cockney, drug-dealing, gangster-florist, Simon Flowers.

The film which is based on a true story about a small time criminal who goes on the run with a neglected nine year old girl, was shot in costal towns Margate and Ramsgate on a very low budget.

Ferda commented ‘My Hero, is distinctly British. I made a promise to myself that I would always support British indie films with great scripts, and this was certainly the perfect fit. I hadn’t ever filmed at a seaside town before and once I read the endearing script I was hooked. I admired the drive and commitment of all involved and wanted to give my best to the role of Simon Flowers’.
