Antonio Banderas is actively trying to cry more.

The Spanish actor will always be fondly remembered for voicing Puss in Boots in the Shrek franchise and the subsequent 2011 spin-off.

He's also had some more badass roles in Machete Kills and The Expendables, but the 54-year-old aims to be more in touch with his softer side.

"I only have one life, I want to enjoy it as much as possible," he explained to German magazine Myway.

"And I want to show more emotion. For example, I cry far more than I used to."

Antonio wasn't at all afraid to open up in the interview, admitting he's a huge hypochondriac who thinks he's having a heart attack every time it beats faster.

He also struggled with confidence around the opposite sex.

"I used to be so scared of women," he confessed. "But then I became acquainted with the female universe and found it fascinating. I never wanted to stop learning new things about them."

Antonio has been keeping busy - he's just been announced for films 33 días and Dear Mister Obama and his romantic drama Knight of Cups will hit cinemas later this year. The latter is directed by Terrence Malick and boasts an all-star cast, with Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale and Natalie Portman among those joining Antonio.

He admits his career has often come at the expense of his personal life, particularly his daughter Stella, who he has with ex-wife Melanie Griffith.

"Of course I can't bring back any missed memories but I can create new ones," he reasoned.
