Jason Bateman has sent his well wishes to Valerie Harper.

The pair starred alongside each other on 80s sitcom Valerie, where Jason played the actress' son.

On Wednesday, Valerie was rushed to hospital after being found unconscious backstage at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine. The 75-year-old has been battling brain cancer for the past two years, but felt well enough to star in a production of Nice Work If You Can Get It.

"I give her all my well wishes. I love Valerie. I hope she gets through it OK," Jason shared with ET.

Jason has always been open about his admiration and respect for his older co-star. In 2013, when Valerie was first diagnosed with cancer, Jason told ET just how much the star has influenced his career.

"Valerie is someone that I've learned a great deal from. Not just comedically, but also in her ability to put whomever approached her, or worked with her, completely at ease with a laugh, and an energy that's intoxicating," he smiled.

Valerie herself has also spoken to the US channel about her illness. Last year she admitted she felt as though she'd cheated death, and was over the moon to still be here after initially being given just three months to live. "I feel wonderful. What luck! Here I am. The three months didn't prove to be correct. The cancer I have is quite rare and terminal and incurable. I'm the recipient of a great research project that has kept me alive," she enthused.
