The Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, consisting of the Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright films Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End, now has a new companion. Beyond the Screen is a new free iPad App which taps into the devotion amongst the film’s fans and their hunger for more trivia and insight into the cult movies.
With all the films featured in the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy available to buy in the iTunes store, the Beyond the Screen App provides movie fans with a second screen experience as they are watching one of the films. The App offers a wide range of trivia, including cameos, filming locations, soundtrack info, film references, quotes and more – the detailed knowledge usually found in multiple directors’ and cast commentaries. The first of its kind, the Beyond the Screen App will deliver an innovative and exciting new experience for both existing fans and those new to the films.
Beyond The Screen delivers all this in a novel and interactive way thanks to sound recognition technology. Users simply need to fire up the App while they are watching their chosen film, and it will automatically sync with the film’s soundtrack via the iPad’s built-in microphone.
Embedded within the App is data that analyses the sound, which triggers content in the Timeline. The Timeline is a constantly scrolling trivia feed, featuring designs and animations that augment the viewing experience as the action takes place on TV.
In addition, the App lets users store their favourite pieces of content in a ‘Freezer’ where they can collect Cornetto moments and open up a series of prizes. The App also makes it possible to stream songs from the soundtrack via Spotify and purchase them on iTunes, while users can test their knowledge of the films in a Pub Quiz section.
