Jessica Biel is returning to TV as the “hottest scientist in the world”.

The 32-year-old actress has landed a guest role in the upcoming fourth season of New Girl, starring Zooey Deschanel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jessica will play an attractive academic named Kat who gets in the way of Zooey’s flighty character, Jess, as she hopes to get lucky at a wedding.

Jessica landed her breakthrough TV role in hit US drama 7th Heaven, which ran from 1996 to 2007.

Despite decades in the business, she spoke earlier this year about overcoming the stress she feels when auditioning.

"Luckily, I’m a pretty good auditioner, which doesn’t mean much. All it means is that you can get through the experience without having a total breakdown," she told Collider back in January.

"It’s hard. The audition process is so tough because the environment is weird, you’re on the spot, nothing is helpful, there’s no visual aids or emotional aids, and you’re reading with someone who’s probably not an actor. The experience is really hard, but I’m OK with it. Usually, I can do a decent job, but I still get nervous. A lot of the times I’ve gone into an audition and felt like, 'Wow, I killed that!' I walked out and never got it, with no call-back or anything. And there are times I’ve walked in there and felt like, 'Well, I have no idea what that just was,' and then you get the part. It’s so hard to tell. It’s hard to step away and look at it from an objective perspective."

Jessica can next be seen in Diane Bell’s upcoming silver screen drama Shiva and May, about a yoga instructor trying to protect her sister, a sex worker, from a deadbeat boyfriend.

New Girl returns to the small screen in the US September 16.
