Matt Bomer thinks Magic Mike XXL and 50 Shades of Grey will be “very different kinds of date movies.”

The highly anticipated adaptation of the steamy E.L. James novel hits the big screen on Valentine’s Day. And while Matt’s next movie Magic Mike XXL isn’t slated for release until July and won’t be direct competition, the actor can see how both films will provide interesting viewing material for a couple on a night out.

“I think they’ll both be great date movies,” he told MTV. “I think they’ll very different kinds of date movies. There’s something in those two movies for any couple.”

Magic Mike XXL is the sequel to the hit 2012 film starring Channing Tatum and Joe Manganiello.

But before he has to fulfill his promotional duties for the movie, the 37-year-old will hopefully have time to enjoy his win at the Golden Globes on Sunday night.

The star received the gong for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series, Movie, or Miniseries for his portrayal of Felix Turner in The Normal Heart.

Matt, who is gay in real life, gave a touching speech in which he thanked his co-star Mark Ruffalo before moving on to his husband, publicist Simon Halls, and their three children.

“For putting up with me when I was 130 pounds and really grumpy when you ate pizza in front of me,” he said, referring to the fact that he had to lose a great deal of weight to play a man dying of AIDS complications. “To the generation that we lost and the people we continue to lose due to this disease, I just want to say we love you, we remember you.”
