Brad Pitt thought about "connecting the dots" on Angelina Jolie's face while she slept.

The Oscar winning actress had to miss the LA premiere of her latest film Unbroken yesterday after coming down with chicken pox.

Husband Brad admirably stood in for his spouse, who directed the WWII drama, on the red carpet but did joke about pranking his wife while she rested.

"It's just cruel. It's cruel irony, She's a bit peppered and spotted," he told Access Hollywood about her absence. "I thought about connecting the dots when she's asleep or something."

The 50-year-old actor brought along three of the couples six children; Maddox, 13, Pax, 11 and Shiloh, eight. His parents Jane and William also accompanied the clan.

Unbroken tells the real life story of POW Louis Zamperini and his journey of survival. Brad revealed that the film was a labour of pure love for his other half.

"She's so proud of this film and, of course, what Louis Zamperini represents," he explained. "She's just grateful for everyone who came out. Spirits are high. It's a nice thing."

While the family were in good spirits about the movie, Brad wasn't as happy about the furore surrounding the Sony hacking scandal. Angelina was linked to the leaked emails, with Sony Pictures' co-chairperson Amy Pascal and movie producer Scott Rudin allegedly calling her a "spoilt brat".

"I was just saying that I don’t see a difference in News Corp hacking phone calls and hacking e-mails. I don't think we should be able to participate," Brad added. "I think someone's conversation, whether in email or in person, should be private. We shouldn't be participating and these sites that are disseminating them should stop. They won't."
