Bradley Cooper has been nominated for a Tony Award.

The actor has been making waves on the stage for some time thanks to his role in The Elephant Man. He's about to bring the play to London having starred in it on Broadway, with his turn treading the New York City boards winning him a best actor nomination at the 2015 American theatre awards.

Bill Nighy is also in the running for the prize thanks to his role in Skylight, with Steven Boyer, Ben Miles and Alex Sharp rounding out the category.

There are some big names mentioned in the women's category too, with Dame Helen Mirren nominated thanks to her role as Britain's Queen Elizabeth II in The Audience. Elisabeth Moss, Ruth Wilson, Geneva Carr and Carey Mulligan are also up for the gong.

It was a good day for Bradley's play, with The Elephant Man also receiving a nod in the best revival category, alongside Skylight, This Is Our Youth and You Can’t Take It With You.

Kristin Chenoweth leads the way in the best female musical actress category with her role in On the Twentieth Century. Others to be mentioned include Leanne Cope, Beth Malone, Kelli O’Hara and Chita Rivera.

The men's prize will go to either Michael Cerveris, Robert Fairchild, Brian d’Arcy James, Ken Watanabe or Tony Yazbeck.
Bruce Willis - who is set to star in Broadway show Misery - and Mary-Louise Parker announced this year's nominations, reading the names from the Paramount Hotel’s Diamond Horseshoe in New York City.

The ceremony will take place on June 7 at Radio City Music Hall and is being co-hosted by Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming.
