Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt often lock themselves in a room together.

The couple, who married last year, have six children together but make time for themselves too.

Prioritising moments for the pair to bond is high on the list for Oscar-winner Angelina.

"Spending time as a couple is important when you have kids," she explained in an interview with German magazine Myway. "Brad and I will often go for romantic dinner dates. We also have someone stay over and look after the kids once a week or once every two weeks. That gives us the chance to disappear into a different part of the house and lock the door behind us."

But it's not just the power couple who need some time out from family life occasionally. Their little ones, Zahara, Maddox, Pax, Vivienne, Knox and Shiloh all get some respite from time spent apart, too.

"If they go out without us, with friends, they get a lot more peace than when Brad and I are with them," said the famous family matriarch.

When it boils down to it however, Angelina views time spent with everyone together as the most valuable. That's why the brood always comes along to work commitments.

"They're always with us. They're homeschooled, so we can always take them along," she explained. "The health and happiness of my kids will always be the most important thing."

And Angelina is under no illusions that she's very lucky to be able to work and raise her children. She is grateful for her support network and also her financial situation.
