Cameron Diaz thinks social media is a “crazy-a*s experiment on society”.

The Annie actress has 1.3 million followers on her Instagram account, but she hasn’t posted a new photo on the image-sharing website since September 2014.

And Cameron has explained why she’s disinterested in sharing her life online.

“I think social media is a crazy-a*s experiment on society,” she revealed in the April 2015 issue of the UK’s Cosmopolitan magazine. “The way people use it to get validation from a bunch of strangers is dangerous. What’s the point?”

Cameron married musician Benji Madden at her Beverly Hills, California home in January.

Although she abstains from partaking in social media, the Sex Tape star thinks having regular intercourse improves life.

“It’s something healthy that we need to be doing for many different reasons,” Cameron noted.

The 42-year-old published a health book at the close of 2013 entitled The Body Book: The Law of Hunger, the Science of Strength, and Other Ways to Love Your Amazing Body, a title co-written by Sandra Bark.

Cameron loves maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but she believes in treating herself every now and again.

“Wellbeing is an equation. Remember, you don’t have to have the whole cake, you can have a piece. Don’t deprive yourself. Have fun. Just be self-aware,” she explained.

“If your equation is 80 per cent good, 20 per cent bad most of the time, then a little movement toward the centre isn’t going to affect you much.”

But this doesn’t mean she’s lax about getting to the gym for a bout of exercise.

Cameron says she feels bad without partaking in a regular fitness regimen.

“You have to just do it. Once you commit and really put in the effort, your body goes, ‘Oh, it’s not OK to be without this’,” she said.

“People say, ‘My body rejects exercise.’ No, it doesn’t. Your mind rejects exercise.”
