Cate Blanchett has adopted a baby girl.

The 45-year-old actress and her husband Andrew Upton are already parents to sons Dashiell, 13, Roman, ten, and six-year-old Ignatius.

And now the couple have added a daughter, thought to be called Vivienne, to their brood. Australian magazine Women's Weekly contacted Cate's representatives, who confirmed she has adopted after the star was spotted with the tiny tot at Sydney airport.

She has apparently been gushing to friends at her sons' school that she and Andrew are over the moon with the new addition to their family.

"She's really excited and clearly besotted," a friend told the publication.

Andrew currently holds the position of artistic director at the Sydney Theatre Company, but once that ends this year they will be relocating to the US. However the clan wish to return Down Under at a later point when they have the time.

Cate's latest project Cinderella is bound to be an enjoyable watch for her little girl once she's old enough. The live action remake of the famous Disney film stars Lily James in the title role and Cate as her stepmother.

While it may not seem like the obvious choice for her young boys to watch, the blonde beauty recently revealed that they will definitely be tuning in.

"My children are completely in the stage where I'm an utter embarrassment," she giggled to talk show Sunrise.

"I don't force them on a Saturday night to sit home and watch mummy's movies, wire coat-hanger in hand, but they'll see this one for sure."

And after previously joking to W magazine that she feels a "bit demented" being surrounded by all boys it seems like a little girl is just the ticket for Cate, who added that she loves the chaos of her family.
