Henry Cavill says Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is not a sequel.

Little has been revealed about the upcoming superhero movie, other than a trailer that Warner Bros. were forced to release this week following a bootleg version hitting the Internet.

However, Henry, who played Superman in 2013 movie Man of Steel and is reprising his role alongside Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader, insists the new film will not follow on from any other story.

“I wouldn't call this a Superman sequel,” Henry told MTV during an interview at CinemaCon. “This is Batman versus Superman, so it's a separate entity altogether. It's introducing the Batman character, and expanding upon the universe that was kicked off by Man Of Steel. So yeah, watch the space. See how it turns out. Again, everything can change in the editing room. But, as it stands, it's definitely an introduction of the Batman character and, ultimately, the introduction of the Justice League films."

One person more than a little excited about Batman v Superman is Joss Whedon, the writer and director of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Speaking about the film in a new interview with Yahoo! Movies, Joss admitted the trailer confirmed everything he had been hoping about the superhero film.

“I found the trailer interesting. Because they’re bringing up a lot of issues that we bring up in Age of Ultron and I think it’s inevitable,” the filmmaker noted.

“People with power, who are good, do not always agree and it makes perfect sense for me that Batman and Superman would fight. And besides… Batman and Superman are gonna fight! I’m so excited! I’m so excited!”

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is due for release in the US on March 25, 2016.
