Channing Tatum says Magic Mike 2 is set to be a “very different movie”.

Despite the success of the first film, which followed a troupe of male strippers, Channing revealed they aren’t following the same formula when it comes to the sequel.

In fact, the new film, titled Magic Mike XXL, will be much more light-hearted and funny than the first which featured some darker undertones.

“I don’t know if I've ever seen a sequel that is going to be this different from the first movie - in a good way," Channing told Entertainment Tonight.

“It still has all the things that people want to see from a Magic Mike movie, but the journey is different.”

Despite the premise of the original movie and overload of male eye candy, Channing believes Magic Mike is more appealing to men than women.

‘What’s weird about Magic Mike movies is that they are more guy movies than girl movies but they’re seen as girl movies!” Channing laughed.

Channing will reprise his role as the titular Magic Mike in the sequel, with Joe Manganiello also returning for the follow-up film.

Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, who appeared in the first film as club owner Dallas, has yet to confirm whether or not he will make an appearance in the sequel.

Channing previously revealed that his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum was more than a little forthcoming when it came to giving him tips as he shot Magic Mike.

"Of course she has her things that she’s working on but she always gives her woman’s touch," he told British newspaper Metro. "She watched every cut of Magic Mike and gave notes upon notes. And that’s her watching me grind on chicks all day!"

Magic Mike XXL is due for release in July 2015.
