Channing Tatum feared for his life when he found himself faced with what he thought was a mountain lion.

The actor once portrayed tough guy Duke in action movie G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, but found himself helpless when being confronted with the wild animal on a camping trip.

The star recalled how he and his wife Jenna Dewan tried to escape the creature before realising it was something altogether different.

“We went camping and I got a serious case of food poisoning. As I’m hovering over the porcelain God my wife comes running into the bathroom saying there’s a mountain lion outside. I go out there and sure enough, there’s a mountain lion right upon a ridge. And I’m like, ‘I don’t know what to do, I just want to projectile vomit,’” he told British TV show This Morning. “So we’re trying to get to our car which is like, 50 yards away, and my wife thinks it’s safest to hide in my arm pit. And so we’re trying to creep up, creep up and the thing just keeps staring at us, not moving, until I realise it’s a stump!”

Channing is currently promoting new movie The Vow, which is based on the true story of married couple Kim and Krickitt Carpenter.

A car accident results in a young woman’s severe memory loss. Her husband Leo, played by Channing, works to win her heart again as they try to piece their lives back together.

Talking about his onscreen wife Rachel McAdams, the 32-year-old said he admired his co-star for playing the difficult character of a woman with amnesia.

“She’s the one that got badly hurt but he’s the victim. She was a hard character to play - it’s almost a very unlikeable character because Leo is just like, ‘Please love me,’ and she’s like, ‘I don’t know who you are’,” he said.

“She is going back about five years in time and everything else has gone, so there’s a lot of emotional responses that come with that. As you can imagine people [with memory loss] can become incredibly frustrated and depressed and very withdrawn, so that was a difficult thing for us to balance; how withdrawn she became from him,” Rachel added.
