Channing Tatum has been named the Sexiest Man Alive.

The actor famously showed off his impressive physique in this year’s hit movie Magic Mike which helped him scoop the annual title awarded by People magazine.

The chiselled hunk admits he was shocked by the news.

"My first thought was, 'Y'all are messing with me,'" Channing revealed to People.

"I told [my wife] Jenna [Dewan-Tatum] after we'd been in the bathtub washing our dogs because they'd gotten skunked. She was like, 'What?'"

The actor joked that Jenna has now accepted his title and enjoys teasing him about it.

"Yeah, she calls me [the Sexiest Man Alive] now," Channing added with a smile.

The star has also scooped another coveted title for his work this year. Channing was named GQ's Movie Star of the Year as part of their December issue.

In the accompanying interview Channing revealed he got up to "meatheadish things" with Jamie Foxx on the set of their action movie White House Down.

The movie star worked out twice a day during filming and has joked that a special exercise area was created for him and Jamie to help release their pent up aggression on set.

"We have a trailer we go in and do meatheadish things," Channing joked to the US edition of GQ magazine. "[Today's work-out] was good, it was good. Deadlifted 425."

Channing's all or nothing attitude to his keep fit routine is similar to how he approaches most things in his life.

As well as working a six-day week while shooting White House Down, Channing allowed himself under a week to recover before starting his next project.

The 32-year-old shared why he chooses to keep such a busy filming schedule.

He explained his motivation comes from the career advice he was given when he was starting out by some of Hollywood's biggest stars.

"Big actors have told me to get it while the getting is good. Grind it," Channing hinted.

"Ahhh, I'm not gonna drop names...You know, very successful, smart actors. And they were like: 'Grind it. If you love it, grind it.' I did. And a lot of people who didn't grind it, it's not that they're not in a good place, but I'm in a better place."

White House Down is set for release in cinemas next year.
