Channing: Fatherhood is taking over!

Channing Tatum's film choices have subconsciously changed since he's become a father.

Known for roles such as stripper Magic Mike in the film of the same name and undercover cop Jenko in 21 Jump Street, appealing to a kids’ audience is not really his thing.

However, all that changed when Channing voiced the part of Joaquin in animation The Book of Life – and he thinks the role may have come about because of his 16-month-old daughter Everly.

"Making a children's film wasn't a conscious decision but I can feel the sway that fatherhood has on my creative projects. It definitely changes you. When you're a parent, you want the person you're responsible for not to make the same mistakes you made. I'm very competitive but I'm going to have to try and let her find her own way," Channing explained to British newspaper Metro.

"Yes, there's almost nothing of mine that she can watch any time soon. Maybe Step Up - she's going to end up watching that a lot."

Talking about his new film, which hits UK cinemas later this week, Channing describes it as magical.

Zoe Saldana, Ice Cube and Christina Applegate also lend their vocal talents to the flick.

"[It] looks like a magical piñata burst open and Mexican culture fell out," he laughed.

"Animated movies are like vacations fort actors. I got to show up in my sweatpants every day. Zoe jokes that she didn't even brush her teeth. And there are no wrong lines: I could have spoken French and they'd probably be like: 'Maybe that'll work'."

However, older fans of Channing fear not: he'll be back to his stripper best when Magic Mike XXL hits cinemas next year.

Despite having to show off his chiselled torso in the feature, the 34-year-old reveals wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum was not fazed.

"Obviously my job in that film is to do a lot of things that wives would not want their husbands doing but she's cool like that," he smiled.
