Charlize Theron drawn to complex characters

Charlize Theron has joked that she is going through a “b***h period”.

The Young Adult actress has undertaken challenging roles in recent years.

Charlize enjoys portraying conflicted people.

"Somebody pointed out to me that I'm doing like three movies back to back that I play a b***h,” Charlize joked to USA Today. "And I realised — you know, Picasso had his blue period. This may very well just be my b***h period. I'm OK with that."

Charlize is elated to dive into this year’s awards season.

The stunning star is looking forward to her first Golden Globes dress fitting on Tuesday, as she enjoys primping for the red carpet.

"It's so crazy to have all of this nice stuff on top of the experience, which was a gift," she gushed. "It's always nice to go to the prom and feel like a princess. I don't really in movies [anymore]. I tend to wear sweats and dirty T-shirts."

Charlize has been nominated for a Golden Globe in the Best Actress category for her role as Mavis Gary in Young Adult.

The 69th Golden Globe Awards will be held in Beverly Hills on January 15.
